A proposed 180,000 sq. ft. Walmart Supercenter slated to rise in St. Augustine will bring eight additional retail projects along with it, new filings show.
Renderings indicate that the big box giant will be joined by four fast food restaurants, two stores, and a pair of gas stations — one of which will be a Walmart fuel center.
The other gas station will include a convenience store.
After weeks of feverish speculation, one of the fast food joints was identified as a Chick-Fil-A.
The retail juggernaut plans to develop 43 acres at 3405 International Golf Parkway near Tocoi High School
The area has rapidly become a big box cluster, with the proposed Walmart situated about 2.2 miles from an existing Buc-ee’s and a new Bass Pro Shops.
While some residents have applauded the expanded retail options in the area, others worry that the commercial explosion will worsen traffic.
But local officials have limited recourse in addressing those concerns since the developer secured the requisite entitlements in 2003.
Walmart is the world’s largest company by revenue, with fiscal year 2023 intake of $611 billion, according to Fortune magazine.
