You’ll be able to waste away a little longer at Margaritaville’s highly anticipated Beachwalk development if the popular resort giant gets its way.
The company has amended its plans for the lagoon-side hotel to include AirBnB-style cottages where guests can stay for up to three months at a time, according to filings.
Margaritaville would manage the unique accommodations, including trash pickup, cleaning and mail delivery.
The developers of the Beachwalk Retail Center have asked the county for permission to “increase the number of allowed hotel rooms from 150 to 200 in exchange for a reduction of 7,900 square feet of permitted commercial entitlements.”
The county had some initial concerns that the proposed cottages would be turned into timeshares or fall into private hands, but the developer clarified that the hotel would own and manage them.
For the modification to proceed, the Planning and Zoning Agency and Board of County Commissioners will have to sign off, according to filings.
The documents do not specifically mention Margaritaville, but a listing agent confirmed to The Citizen that the “hotel” referenced in papers is indeed the Jimmy Buffet-inspired resort company.
The developer describes the cottages — which will feature full kitchens — as “short-term stay units which can be occupied by the same person, family or other group for no more than three consecutive months.”
“The streets in front of the Hotel Cottages will include certain traffic calming to provide pedestrian safety between the Hotel Cottages and the nearby Hotel,” the papers state.
Plans are still on track for Margaritaville to begin construction on its hotel resort next year.
