A renowned Australian firm has selected South Jacksonville’s eTown as one of its chosen sites for a sprawling new surfing park to be developed on 55 acres, according to a report.

As part of a new push into North America, Aventuur announced its plans to bring Jacksonville Surf Park to the popular Parc Group development.

The sprawling proposal includes a surfing lagoon powered by the latest wave-generating technology, along with a surfing academy, hotel, retail outlets, and a beach club, according to the Jacksonville Business Journal.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring the Wavegarden to the Jacksonville community,” Aventuur CEO Nicholas Edelman said in a release, according to the outlet. “We met our local partners in March 2022 and admire the passion they have for both surf and the city of Jacksonville. We have built an incredible amount of trust between our partners and the PARC Group, and we are extremely proud of the site we have secured for the development.”

Edelman cited North Florida’s storied surfing tradition and coastal heritage as reasons for the selection.

Aventuur secured local rights to work with wave-generation firm Wavegarden, which powers large diamond-shaped lagoons that allow beginner and advanced surfers to apply their craft.

In a press release announcing its North American initiative last year, the company said its projects are helping to “democratize” the sport by opening it up to those who don’t live near a beach or aren’t comfortable learning among more advanced surfers.

Jacksonville Surf Park is slated to open in 2027.

Aventuur is currently developing similar surf-centered projects in Perth and Auckland.
