It’s a longshot.
The Hastings woman accused of fatally shooting her former boyfriend and using a horse to transport and later bury his body will appear for a bond hearing next month, court records show.
Caylen Deller is currently behind bars facing first degree murder charges for the killing of father-of-two Chad Mullen last September.
Deller’s legal aid attorney will somehow try to convince a Putnam County judge to spring her from jail on her own recognizance pending the outcome of her case, papers state.
Mullen’s daughter, Holli Mullen, has vowed to attend the May 27 court hearing and has lobbied against Deller’s unlikely release.
In a case that gripped St. Johns County last year, Mullen abruptly went missing after last being seen near Deller’s former horse farm.
His corpse was discovered buried in a shallow grave in a rural area in Federal Point on October 28.
“The remains were tied up with various types of cordage and ratchet straps, including what appeared to be a lasso rope,” according to a probable cause affidavit.
Deller and Mullen dated for roughly a year, a relationship friends and family described as highly volatile.
In a viral St. Johns Citizen interview with Deller before her arrest, the drug-addled equestrian calmly denied any role in the slaying.
“I don’t know anything about it,” she said on Oct. 31 outside an unrelated court appearance after the discovery of his remains. “But I’m glad that his mother might have some peace and closure now.”
Deller, 31, allegedly shot Mullen near her horse farm, Stormy Stables, and enlisted friend Tina Marie Lee-Ellis to help her move his body to another location.
Deller’s ex-boyfriend, Ken Wadell, told The Citizen that she confessed to killing Mullen, admitting she used a horse to drag his body to Lee-Ellis’ SUV.
Deller faces the death penalty if convicted of Mullen’s murder.
