Former Nease Panther Tim Tebow poked fun at his modest tenure as an NFL quarterback Thursday during a packed prayer breakfast address at the Lee Health Sports Complex in Fort Myers.
The former Florida Gator was joined by his wife, former beauty pageant contestant Demi-Leigh Tebow, and gave a self-deprecating keynote address.
“If you were invited or you just showed up because maybe you’ve heard a lot about the prayer breakfast, or maybe you showed up because you’re like ‘Hey, I want to go see miss Universe. I don’t really want to go to see this dude that got cut from a bunch of different teams.”
While he fell short of NFL stardom, the famously ferocious competitor embedded himself as a Florida sports immortal after capturing National Championships in Gainesville in both 2006 and 2008.
While homeschooled, Tebow starred for Nease, earning Florida Player of the Year honors as a junior and a state title the following year.
A devout Christian, Tebow and his spouse regularly appear and speak at religious events throughout the year.
