Rapidly expanding Jacksonville International Airport added yet another direct route last week, announcing flights to New Haven, Connecticut beginning in February.
Avelo Airlines will operate flights to the home of Yale University twice a week, officials announced.
“The reason why it’s important is because the addition of new air service and new airlines help to drive and sustain long-term economic growth for the region, whether by businesses relocating to town or, more importantly, helping to sustain the vibrant tourism industry in Northeast Florida,” Jacksonville Aviation Authority Chief Operating Officer Tony Cugno said, according to News4Jax.
The announcement marked the latest in a string of new direct offerings from the River City’s transportation hub.
Air Canada will offer direct flights to Toronto in May, while Delta will fly to Austin, Texas beginning that same month.
Allegiant Airlines will also run direct flights to Akron-Canton Airport in Ohio, Des Moines International Airport in Iowa and Grand Rapids International Airport in Michigan in May.
