Two killed by pickup after exiting their vehicles off of of I-95

Two men were killed early Tuesday morning after being hit by a pickup truck while standing outside their vehicles along Interstate 95, officials said.

The crash occurred around 4:45 a.m. on April 1 near Old St. Augustine Road in Duval County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, two vehicles were stopped in the inside lane just north of the pickup truck.

One victim was from Palm Coast, the other from Jacksonville.

The drivers of those vehicles had exited and were standing nearby.

The pickup truck veered onto the inside shoulder, striking both the parked vehicles and the two men.

The victims were identified as a 56-year-old male from Palm Coast and a 38-year-old male from Jacksonville.

Authorities said the pickup driver, a 63-year-old man from Broward County, was not injured in. the wreck.

The incident caused major traffic delays into St. Johns County, with congestion on northbound I-95 lasting for several hours into the morning.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
