Two injured — one severely — after pontoon boat smashes into dock in Fourth of July wreck

A Fourth of July boating outing turned tragic Friday evening when a pontoon boat collided with a dock in the Intracoastal Waterway near Beverly Beach, leaving one person critically injured, according to the Flagler Beach Fire Department.

Emergency crews from multiple agencies, including the Flagler Beach Fire Department, Palm Coast Fire Department, Flagler County Fire Rescue, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, Flagler Beach Ocean Rescue, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded to the scene at approximately 5:18 p.m.

Upon arrival, first responders found the pontoon boat had struck a dock, with two people injured and in the water.

A photo of the scene showed the badly damaged vessel lodged beneath the wooden structure.

Both individuals were safely pulled from the water.

One victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was classified as a trauma alert before being transported to the nearest trauma center for urgent medical care, officials saiid.

The second individual was reported to be in stable condition and was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
