A horrific fire at a mobile home in East Palatka claimed the lives of three people and left several others injured early Monday morning, according to Putnam County officials.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that one person was found dead at the scene on Maryland Avenue, while another died after being transported to a local hospital.
A third victim later succumbed to injuries, bringing the death toll to three.
“For those inclined, please pray for this family,” the PCSO wrote in a somber Facebook post.
Three additional individuals were taken to a trauma center for treatment of serious burn injuries. Their current conditions have not been released.
Putnam County Fire Rescue reported that one firefighter was also hospitalized after sustaining minor injuries while responding to the blaze. The firefighter is expected to recover.
Officials described the fire as “heavily involved,” indicating that it had engulfed a significant portion of the home by the time crews arrived.
Several people were rescued from the residence during the emergency response.
Due to the fire’s fatal nature, the State Fire Marshal’s Office has launched an investigation to determine the cause.
