Two local leaders have received statewide recognition for their advocacy and commitment to local government.
St. Augustine Mayor Nancy Sikes-Kline and St. Augustine Beach Mayor Dylan Rumrell were both named 2024 Home Rule Hero Award recipients by the Florida League of Cities.
The award is given annually to elected and non-elected officials who go above and beyond to defend and promote Home Rule — the ability for cities to make decisions that best reflect the needs of their communities.
Recipients are recognized for consistent engaging with legislators, sharing local perspectives on proposed measures, and supporting the League’s efforts to protect municipal authority.

“The dedication and effort of these local officials who tirelessly advocated for local decision-making was a difference-maker this legislative session,” said Casey Cook, Chief of Legislative Affairs for the Florida League of Cities. “We’re proud to recognize each of them and thank them for their service.”
Both Sikes-Kline and Rumrell have received the award previously.
“I am humbled and honored to be back to back home rule hero recipient!” Rumrell wrote on a Facebook post. “I owe it to the people of the City of St. Augustine Beach, city staff, our police department. I’ll always work hard for YOU. Let’s make it a three-peat!”
