An 18-year-old motorcyclist died Monday night after hitting a deer, being thrown from his bike, and then struck by another vehicle, officials said.

The fatal crash occurred just before 10 p.m. in Flagler County on State Road 100 near Briarwood Drive, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the Palm Coast teen was traveling westbound on SR 100 when he struck a deer. The impact threw him from the motorcycle and into the roadway.

A 54-year-old Bunnell man driving a sedan behind the motorcyclist then struck the teen, who died at the scene.

FHP said the driver was unaware of the initial collision before hitting the cyclist, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Bunnell man and his three passengers were not injured.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing. The identity of the motorcyclist has not yet been released.
