A Palm Coast man was arrested on the night of July 4 following a chaotic downtown incident in which he allegedly shoved a police officer during an booze-fueled altercation.

According to the St. Augustine Police Department, the soused suspect was involved in a fight with multiple people around 10:22 p.m. near the post office at 99 King Street.

With the Old City’s streets swarmed after a fireworks show, officers responding to the disturbance told the man to beat it.

But he reportedly blew off the directives and continued trying to fight others while also making threats toward police.

As a sergeant at the scene attempted to take the 33-year-old into custody, he allegedly “violently” shoved the them in the chest.

The melee ended with the deployment of a Taser and he was taken into custody.

He was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, a third-degree felony, and disorderly intoxication, a misdemeanor.

The man was booked into the St. Johns County Jail and bonded out of jail.

No serious injuries were reported in connection with the arrest and the case is ongoing.
