Capture the flag.
That’s the steadfast mission of a local restaurant after a pair of banner bandits made off with Old Glory flying outside a popular Palm Valley venue.
Video posted by Palm Valley Outdoors shows a man and a woman walking with somewhat wobbly purpose towards the flag last Saturday around 6:30 p.m..
The male then unholsters the item and walks out of the parking lot to parts unknown with his companion in tow.
“Friends — someone took the American flag from Palm Valley Outdoors, and yes, we do have it on video,” the waterfront establishment wrote on Facebook along with the footage. “We’re asking you to please return it, no questions asked.”
Keyboard Columbos immediately sprang into action with a range of investigative remedies, including checking credit card receipts and foraging for the flag in nearby bushes.
The proprietors pledged not to prosecute the case — either through social media or in the courts — if the red white and blue made its way back to its proper perch.
“Let’s not turn this into another Coldplay episode
— just drop it off and we’ll call it even,” they wrote lightheartedly. “No drama, no hassle — just bring Old Glory home.”
