It scratched and clawed, but a St. Johns lobster roll joint announced its closure less than a year after opening its doors.
Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls wrote on Facebook that it would be permanently closing its Durbin Park location at the end of September.
“First off, I would like to thank all of our loyal customers for all of the support you’ve given us over the past 10 months,” the post stated. “I want to let everyone know that we will be closing our doors at the end of this month.”
The Annapolis, Maryland-based chain, which serves up New England-inspired fare, has two other Northeast Florida locations that will remain open. The Durbin outpost greeted its first customers last November.

Mason’s locations in Fernandina Beach and at the St. Johns Town Center won’t be impacted.
In addition to lobster sandwiches, the brand — which has 40 stores nationwide — also serves up lobster bisque, clam chowder and other seaside sides.
“Again, thank you for your support and welcoming us to the community with open arms,” the social post said in its farewell.
