Gas prices have jumped sharply in recent days.

Fuel prices are climbing sharply in Florida and are likely to continue rising in St. Johns County as energy markets react to escalating tensions in the Middle East, industry analysts report.

Recent data from AAA shows Florida’s average price per gallon has jumped more than 50 cents over the past week — a pace not seen in years — with current statewide averages reaching their highest levels since mid‑2024.

As of Monday, the average price of regular gas in Florida has risen to $3.49 per gallon, up from $2.88 last week — a jump of roughly 21% in a matter of days.

Analysts warn that the war with Iran has acutely disrupted crude oil markets and pushed wholesale costs higher, trends that tend to trickle down to retail station prices within days.

Industry experts say the surge in crude oil prices — which recently topped $100 per barrel — is tied to fears of instability in key shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.

Because gasoline is refined from crude oil, any sustained rise in oil costs typically translates into higher pump prices for consumers.

Drivers in Northeast Florida have already reported noticeable increases at local stations on local forums, with some posting jumps of 40–60 cents per gallon.

While prices can vary by station and timing, the broader upward trend has been consistent with statewide data.

Energy analysts caution that, unless crude markets stabilize, pump prices could continue trending upward in the coming weeks.
