St. Johns middle schooler in critical condition after serious e-bike crash

A St. Johns County boy is in critical condition after crashing his e-bike Monday night, police said.

According to New4Jax, the middle schooler was riding along a sidewalk next to Race Track Road in Julington Creek Plantation when he fell around 7:30 p.m.

The boy did not collide into anyone else and was assisted by bystanders who witnessed the crash, the report states.

He was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition where he remains in critical condition.

Th St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

News4Jax published a photo showing several emergency workers crouched down next to the victim while loading him onto a gurney.

E-bike safety has become a flashpoint issue across the county with reports of crashes and unsafe operation showing up frequently on neighborhood Facebook groups.

County Commissioner Ann Taylor brought up the issue at a recent St. Johns County Board of Commissioners meeting, saying she has been inundated with resident concerns over the issue.
