A proposal to bring a new fish camp restaurant to the banks of the St. Johns River has entered its first stage of review with the building department, The Citizen has learned.
The project, called St. Johns Fish Camp in a preliminary application, is planned for a roughly 20-acre site at the intersection of State Roads 16 and 13, near the Shands Bridge.
Plans call for splitting the property into two parcels — one for a single-family residence and the other for a 12,000-square-foot restaurant, featuring an expansive wrap-around deck, outdoor performance stage, and two docks.
The application also details an accessory building and onsite parking.

The lot is currently cleared.
The project does not have any connection to the successful chain of fish camps founded by Ben and Liza Groshell and operated under Southern Table Hospitality group.
Their eateries also include Valley Smoke and Market 32.
The new project is still in the early stages and will require additional county approvals before construction can begin.
The Citizen will update the proposal as it advances.
