Firefighters contained a brush fire yesterday afternoon in the 1700 block of County Road 13A North after an escaped controlled burn spread into nearby wooded areas, prompting a multi-agency response.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue Crews arrived on scene to find the fire actively spreading through brush and woods.

The blaze was contained around 4:30 p.m.

Residents in the surrounding area were urged to remain vigilant and report any flare-ups, as current fire weather conditions increase the risk of rekindling.

Crews continued to monitor the area into the evening to ensure the fire remained contained.

Officials believe the fire spread after a local property owner’s controlled burn emitted embers.
