A nude man wielding a large branch broke into a St. Augustine home this month while the residents were inside, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a burglary in progress on April 15 after the occupants reported a naked man hitting their doors with a branch on Swallowtail Lane.

He managed to shatter a rear kitchen door, prompting the terrified residents to hide in a bedroom and call 911.

Deputies arrested 44-year-old Alejandro Barzaga at the scene and learned he lived nearby.

When deputies went to his home, they found a scatter of clothing and a purse outside, and the garage door was open.

Concerned for anyone inside, deputies entered and discovered signs of a large marijuana grow operation.

SJSO narcotics detectives responded and executed a search warrant at the home.

Inside, they found 3 firearms, $85,000 in cash, and 22 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms.

They also located 3 pounds of marijuana, 12 mature marijuana plants, and 5.2 pounds of marijuana edibles.

In addition, deputies recovered 17 grams of ketamine, drug ledgers, and paraphernalia associated with drug sales and cultivation.

Barzaga was initially charged with armed burglary of an occupied dwelling and criminal mischief.

Authorities say additional drug-related charges are pending.
