St. Johns County sheriff’s detectives are investigating after a body was found Friday evening, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The agency said deputies were notified just before 7 p.m. Friday that a body had been located on the rocks in the area of Old A1A and Gene Johnson Road.
The agency’s Major Crimes Unit responded and opened a death investigation, while the medical examiner was called to the scene to assist in determining the cause of death.
In an update issued Monday morning, the Sheriff’s Office said the remains have not yet been positively identified and that an autopsy is still pending.
Authorities have not released information about the age, sex or identity of the deceased, and no cause or manner of death has been announced.
The investigation remains ongoing.
