Community members gathered in Hastings Saturday as St. Johns County marked the 25th anniversary of its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast and Basketball Tournament.

The long-running event honors Dr. King’s memory through fellowship, service, and recreation.

“This breakfast is special because it’s free, welcoming, and open to everyone,” said Marithza Ross, Executive Director of the St. Johns County Parks Foundation. “It brings people together to share a meal and take a moment to reflect on how supporting one another makes our communities stronger. The Hastings Rotary Club is a wonderful example of that.”

This milestone year introduced new partnerships that added depth and support to the tradition.

The St. Johns County Parks Foundation joined forces with the Hastings Rotary Club to support the hoops and hash browns celebration, providing financial support and hands-on assistance.

Rotary Club members volunteered their time to help serve breakfast, reinforcing the community-centered mission of the celebration.

For a quarter century, the MLK Breakfast and Basketball Tournament has been a signature Parks & Recreation program in Hastings.

The St. Johns County Parks Foundation is the official philanthropic partner of St. Johns County Parks & Recreation.

The Foundation collaborates with community organizations to support public programs, build strong partnerships, and ensure valued traditions continue throughout St. Johns County.
