It’s gone from a sprint to a brisk walk.
St. Johns County added another 11,400 residents between July 2024 and July 2025, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates.
The county’s population was estimated at 346,328 in July 2025, bringing it almost to 350,000 — a number that would have been unthinkable not long ago.
While the gain remains substantial, it’s smaller than in recent years and marks the slowest numeric hike since 2020.
Between July 2020 and July 2021, St. Johns County added nearly 19,800 residents, according to Census estimates.
That spike coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, when many people moved from larger urban areas to less densely populated counties in Florida, seeking more space, lower costs, and remote-work-friendly locations.
Annual increases in the following years ranged from about 13,400 to 14,400 residents, showing a period of sustained but slowing growth after the pandemic migration boom.
Long-term growth has been dramatic. The 2020 Census counted 273,425 residents, up from 123,135 in 2000.
Over the past 25 years, the county has nearly tripled in population, reflecting both domestic migration and ongoing local development.
Believe it or not, St. Johns County’s population stood at just 25,000 in 1950.
