A St. Augustine woman has been hit with an attempted first-degree murder rap following a violent knife attack, according to court papers.
Investigators say Tammy Cubbedge, 50, was riding in a vehicle with two other people on the way to her father’s home on August 28, where the victim was also living at the time.
During the trip, the driver stopped at a convenience store and briefly left the car to buy drinks, leaving Cubbedge inside.
While alone in the vehicle, Cubbedge allegedly took a small pocketknife belonging to the driver—a knife the driver had earlier used to cut a tag off her purse, papers state.
Upon arriving at the Anderson Street residence, one passenger reported that Cubbedge turned and said, “You might not want to be here,” before getting out of the car,” according to an arrest report.
Moments later, Cubbedge allegedly attacked the victim with the knife, severely cutting their abdomen.
Witnesses confirmed that the knife used in the attack was the same one taken from the vehicle.
Investigators cited multiple witness statements, the recovery of the weapon, and the severity of the victim’s injuries as evidence that Cubbedge intended to kill the victim.
Authorities determined that the assault was premeditated and grounds for the attempted first-degree murder charge.
The court documents did not reveal a motive for the attack. The victim survived her injuries.
