The St. Augustine youth football community is coming together in support of one of its own after he recently suffered a serious injury on the field.

Christian Lewis, a standout player and student, recently sustained a serious concussion during a game.

“Christian has been hospitalized for several days, and his recovery has been challenging to say the least,” his coach, Cedric Thompson wrote in a GoFundMe post.

The campaign has raised more than $6,000 thus far.

“He experienced severe memory loss, at one point unable to remember his own name, his parents, his teammates, or even the fact that he played football or had siblings,” said Thompson.

While Christian has begun to recall some details, his progress remains gradual. He currently wears a neck brace and is undergoing further medical evaluation.

Known for his “infectious energy, his dedication to his team, and his selfless nature,” Christian has long been a role model both on and off the field, his coach said.

“As the ultimate competitor, Christian always looks for ways to lift up those around him, making a positive impact both on and off the field,” he added.

Christian’s family has been reeling since the incident as they hold vigil at his side and pray for a recovery.

“My heart breaks for him and his family and I hate to see him like this,” Thompson wrote. “As his coach I love him like a son and the least I can do is try to help in any way I can.”

Christian’s family is now facing mounting medical bills and financial pressure, having taken time off work to remain by his side.

“Anybody that has met the Lewis family knows that they are the embodiment of love, faith, and positive energy that the world needs more of,” said Thompson.
