When keeping it real goes wrong.
An unwitting 28-year-old St. Augustine man was hit with a felony aggravated assault charge after pointing a gun at an off duty cop near in the parking lot of the Castillo de San Marcos last week, an arrest report alleges.
The officer, 23, was walking to his parked vehicle with two female friends Wednesday night when the suspect — sitting in a Toyota Prius — yelled in their direction, according to the report.
“I love you, b—-,” the man said.
The off duty officer then let his friends walk by him and enter his vehicle to “prevent further harassment,” the papers state.
At that point, the suspect stuck a gun out of his window and pointed it at the victim, stating” “yeah, try me now, b—-.”
The victim told arriving officers that he saw the man flash a gray or black gun directly at him.
Investigators were able to retrieve video footage from the area.
“After reviewing camera footage, | observed —— pointing what appeared to be a handgun out of the window at —–,” the arrest report states.
A search of the Prius turned up an unloaded Smith & Wessun handgun in a center console and a magazine in the glove compartment.
Officers also found a nitrous oxide cartridge in the vehicle before placing the suspect in custody.
The suspect has prior arrests for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest out of Duval County.
His St. Johns case is now pending.
