The Publix supermarket chain has applied to clear 18 acres of land as it ramps up development of a prime Nocatee parcel it purchased for $6.66 million in May.

The chain hopes to open a brand new Nocatee West store as an anchor for a new commercial area off of Valley Ridge Boulevard near Burbank Avenue, according to the Jacksonville Daily Record.

The planned location is expected to span roughly 49,000 square feet and will have an attached 2,100-square-foot liquor store.

The store would sit roughly 2 miles west of its existing Nocatee location at Town Center.

An existing Greenwise across the street from that store is currently being refashioned into a Publix — effectively giving Nocatee three outposts.

DDI Inc. of Jacksonville, which is owned by the Davis family, sold the property to the company.
