The proposal will now go to the Board of County Commissioners.

The fate of a proposed golf-themed entertainment facility in St. Johns County now rests with the Board of County Commissioners.

Nothing Putt Fun is planned for roughly 3 acres of a 4.5-acre property at 7250 and 7280 U.S. 1 North, roughly half a mile south of International Golf Parkway near Palencia.

The project would include a one-story, 16,000-square-foot building and a 22,000-square-foot outdoor course.

The Planning and Zoning Agency recommended denial.

The project would also feature food trucks, arcade games, a full bar, and parking.

The applicants previously went before the Planning and Zoning Agency in December.

Members voted 5-2 to recommend denial of the rezoning request, contending that much of the property consists of wetlands.

Members Judy Spiegel and Richard Hilsenbeck said 68% of the site is classified as wetlands, and argued that the design appeared to impac much of them.

Backers of the project assert that entertainment options for families and kids are limited in St. Johns County, adding that a golf project is preferable to other forms of development springing up along rapidly growing stretch.

Developer Barrett Tennant, represented by Gulfstream Design Group, will now present the plan to the county commissioners.

The panel holds the final authority to approve or deny the project and will review the proposal at its January 20 meeting next week.
