St. Johns County Fire Rescue crews traveled to Clay County early Friday morning after receiving reports of a horse trapped in a swimming pool in Middleburg, officials said.
When they arrived, they found the frightened steed unable to clamber out of the water on its own.
Images of the rescue show the white horse belly-deep in the pool.
Working alongside the Clay County Fire Department, SJCFR quickly set up a specialized animal rescue device to help hoist the horse out of the muck.

“Firefighters from both departments worked together to safely extract the horse,” officials said in a release.
The agency serves as the lead department for large animal rescue training in Northeast Florida.
“Our Special Operations team responds to multiple incidents each year, equipped with the tools, training, and experience needed to handle these unique emergencies,” SFCFR said in a release.
