Jacksonville International Airport’s hourly garage remains closed days after a fire tore through the facility, damaging dozens of vehicles and triggering structural concerns that could take weeks to resolve, authorities said.
Officials have cordoned off the area as a potential collapse zone, warning that only authorized personnel may enter while engineers assess which sections—if any—can be safely accessed for vehicle recovery, according tp a statement from a spokesperson for the Jacksonville Aviation Authority.
Crews are working to determine whether cars in some areas can be removed later this week. The hourly garage has about 1200 spaces.
Travelers with vehicles in the garage are being asked to sign up at www.flyjax.com to receive personalized updates. Registrants must submit contact details and their license plate number, the spokesperson added.

The hourly garage has been shuttered indefinitely to all foot and vehicle traffic. While the daily garage and daily surface lot remain closed to new parkers, drivers who already left vehicles in those areas can still retrieve them.
With on-site parking now severely limited, airport officials are encouraging travelers to use off-site lots along Airport Road, arrange drop-offs or book rides through services like Uber or Lyft.
The fire broke out around 12:30 p.m. Friday on the third level of the hourly garage, which was nearly full at the time. Videos captured flames shooting from the concrete structure and thick smoke billowing over the tarmac.
No injuries were reported, but flights were briefly halted and roads to the terminal were closed as emergency crews responded.
At a press conference Friday, Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan said that investigators believe that about 50 cars were damaged.
Fire Chief Keith Powers said that an airport video shows the fire started with one vehicle and then quickly spread.
“We don’t know any details about that vehicle, what kind of vehicle it was,” he said. “Whether it was an electric vehicle, a gas-powered vehicle, or what. We don’t know that from the video. We can just see the vehicle that started it.”
He added that the hourly garage suffered partial structural collapses on the second and third floors.
As of Sunday, new images showed the charred remains of multiple vehicles still inside the garage.
