When it comes to the all-important hashtag economy, this local St. Johns County beach is booming.

According to a new study by tide forecasting platform Tideschart, St. Augustine Beach ranks eighth among the most Instagrammed beaches in the United States, with more than 293,000 hashtagged posts on the social media platform.

The study analyzed Instagram hashtag counts for the top 25 beaches in the U.S., as selected by Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards.

Florida dominated the rankings, taking five of the top ten spots, with Clearwater Beach topping the list at over 1.4 million tags.

But while Clearwater and Panama City Beach are known for crowds and commotion, the St. Johns destination offers something unique — a blend of natural beauty, relaxed coastal charm, and centuries of history that give every photo a greater depth.

“One thing that ties these beaches together is that they’re more than beaches, they are cultural melting pots, from surfing and nightly festivals to live music, there is more to do than simply walk across the shore,” said Tideschart founder Ryan Blundell. “People want to share a picture online that says ’this is who I am and what I’m about’ and these beaches offer an incredible chance for that.”

While it may not have the volume of tourists as Waikiki or Santa Monica, St. Augustine Beach is punching well above its weight online.

Here’s the entire list.
