One cat died and another was injured in a Tuesday morning house fire in Julington Creek Plantation, officials said.

Crews were called to the 1000 block of Linwood Loop and found heavy flames coming from the rear of the home.

The blaze was subdued by 7:50 a.m. and firefighters immediately began search operations.

According to St. Johns County Fire Rescue, no residents were inside at the time of the fire.

Firefighters located two cats. One was found dead, while the other was rescued and given life-saving treatment at the scene.

First responders provided oxygen and emergency care before the surviving animal was transported by the homeowner to a local veterinarian for additional treatment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
