One person was killed and four injured in a three-car crash near Nease High School Sunday night in Ponte Vedra, officials said.
Emergency crews rushed to the chaotic scene at U.S. 1 and Ray Road directly outside the school around 7 p.m.
According to First Coast News, the vehicles were are all traveling south on US-1 prior to the collision.
A vehicle driven by a 71-year-old St. Augustine man and a sedan driven by a 49-year-old Ponte Vedra man were stopped at the intersection, one in the inside lane and one is the outside lane.
A 62-year-old man rear ended the car in the outside lane, propelling it into the vehicle next to it.
The car being driven by the 71-year-old was sent into a ditch. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Four others sustained minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital.
A total of seven people were involved in the chain reaction accident.
Florida Highway Patrol shut down all lanes at the intersection as of 9:20 p.m.
