A 6-year-old child remains in critical but stable condition Monday morning following a near-drowning incident over the weekend at the SilverLeaf community amenity center, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred Sunday at the facility located at 218 Silver Forest Drive.
SJSO deputies responded to the scene after receiving a report of a child in distress. Emergency medical personnel were also dispatched and began life-saving efforts at the scene.
The child was airlifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
The specific circumstances that led to the incident remain unclear.
Crime scene tape was placed around the amenity center after the incident, and the area remained secured into the night.
Residents in the SilverLeaf community reported seeing emergency vehicles and a helicopter at the location on Saturday afternoon.
As of Monday morning, the child remains hospitalized.
