A St. Augustine driver with 22 license suspensions was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase through heavy rain last week, according to court papers.
The 28-year-old driver, who hasn’t had a valid license since 2017, failed to stop when a Florida Highway Patrol officer attempted a traffic stop near SR-16 and Industry Center Drive, an arrest report states.
According to authorities, he sped through traffic, weaving between vehicles and briefly using the left shoulder to elude deputies, despite rainy conditions.

Other motorists in the area were forced to take evasive action to avoid collisions.
The pursuit continued to the intersection of SR-16 and Kenton Morrison Road, where the vehicle lost control while attempting a right turn.
The car crossed into oncoming lanes, slammed into a curb at high speed, and lost a tire before crossing a sidewalk and coming to a stop.
The driver, the sole occupant, exited the vehicle and was taken into custody.
He was transported to UF Flagler Hospital for medical clearance.
Authorities charged the driver with felony fleeing and eluding police and felony driving while license suspended or revoked.
His case is ongoing.
