A 15-year-old child riding an e-bike is in critical condition Monday night after he collided with an Amazon delivery truck, St. Johns County Fire Rescue officials told The Citizen.

The boy was airlifted from the scene with severe injuries, agency spokesman Chris Naff said.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Rialto Drive and Nocatee Village Drive at roughly 4 pm after stunned witnesses called 911.

Arriving medics tended to the boy at the scene before he was rushed to the hospital by helicopter.

The boy was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, a source told The Citizen.

“A juvenile riding an electric dirt bike failed to stop for the vehicle,” SJSO said in a statement.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, Naff said.

A large crowd on concerned onlookers — including other e-bike riders who were with the teen at the time — gathered at the scene.

St. Johns County police said he failed to stop for the oncoming delivery truck and was struck.

The probe into the incident is ongoing and The Citizen will update this story as more details become available.

  1. Parents should monitor these children on Electric Bikes. I have one and they go 20 miles per hour. That’s pretty fast when you’re dealing with heavy traffic. I’m praying this child will be okay. This situation is not good for anyone involved.
