The popular Chipotle fast casual Mexican chain has its sights set on a new location in St. Johns County, according to a report.
The brand’s application for a new outpost in Durbin Park at 480 Durbin Pavilion has been approved, the Jacksonville Daily Record reported.
The bowl and burrito specialists will take over the former space of a Rumble Boxing Gym that has now shuttered.
Chipotle has been expanding its footprint in St. Johns County with several new locations, including one in Beachwalk.
The Durbin Pavilion venue will sit next to a Firehouse Subs and a T-Mobil retailer.
Since the 3,800 square foot restaurant will not be freestanding, there will be no drive thru option, according to JDR.
The ubiquitous chain offers burritos, bowls, tacos, and salads, with fans selecting from proteins like chicken, steak, and tofu-based sofritas, paired with toppings and salsas.
Founded in 1993 in Denver by chef Steve Ells, the brand began as a single restaurant aimed at funding a fine-dining venture.
Its popularity led to rapid growth, especially after McDonald’s invested in 1998.
Today, Chipotle operates over 3,400 locations and is a leader in the fast-casual space.
