The thriving Beth El Synagogue wants to build a 5,500 square foot school on its Roscoe Boulevard property in Palm Valley, The Citizen has learned.

“Beth El Synagogue is planning a new expansion wing to accommodate the growing needs of its congregation,” the house of worship wrote in a pre-application document.

If approved, the new space at 288 N Roscoe Boulevard will include classrooms, gathering spaces, and “multipurpose areas designed to enhance spiritual engagement, leaning, and community events.”

The synagogue said its ranks are growing, and that the new development is “essential to provide the necessary space for worship, education, and social activities.”

The new school would connect to the existing Beth El building, according to site plans.

According to its website, Beth El was founded in the early 1990s to “create a cornerstone at the beach for the Jewish community.”

The synagogue began with a modest number of members before adding to its rolls over the years.

“Many of our members were raised as Jews in Jewish households,” the website reads. “Others have come to us through other faiths and traditions. All are welcome within Beth El The Beaches Synagogue.”

The organization is affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism.

“Our goal is to create a  space that fosters connection, growth, and inclusivity for current and future generations of Beth El members,” the group said as part of its submission for the new space.
