They’re sticking up for girls’ lacrosse.
Dedicated backers of the Nease High School ladies’ lacrosse program will hold their first ever holiday celebration fundraiser on Saturday to score an admirable goal — making the sport accessible to all.
Volunteer coordinator KellyAnn Erskine stressed that the team relies on donations each year, and that the cost of fielding a full squad continues to climb.
For some families, the outlay can be a financial strain.
“The costs can be prohibitive for some players and fundraising allows our girls the opportunity to participate,” she said.
To that end, the program will hold a special Saturday bash featuring holiday games for kids, scrumptious treats including hot chocolate and gingerbread men — and of course an appearance by Santa Claus himself for pictures.
The event kicks off at 9 am Saturday morning at Nease High School, and tickets cost $8. All proceeds will go directly to the program.
“The Nease High School girls’ lacrosse team has built a team of athletes who truly support each other and have a strong focus on both player and team success,” Coach Melissa Fifield said. “These talented young ladies have been working hard both on and off the field and the holiday community event is sure to be a fun, memorable day for families.”
