Perhaps the H stand for head-turning.
A talented student at R.J. Murray Middle School — identified only as Vanessa H. — won a recent art competition and will have her painting hang in the State Capitol during the 2025 legislative session, according to the St. Johns County School District.
Florida’s Art in the Capitol initiative invites all districts to select a singular piece that they would like to have displayed in Tallahassee, and Ms. H.’s piece was St. Johns County’s choice.
Submissions were judged by local art teachers.
The gifted eighth grader triumphed with a dazzling portrait of a young couple riding a bicycle along a tree-lined stretch.
The exhibit will officially launch in early March.
St. Johns officials also shouted out the winner’s art teacher, Amy Banton, in celebrating the honor.
