The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has refuted a report that a man was found with pipe bombs at a rest stop Tuesday night.

Citing sources, Action News Jax said a suspect was arrested after a search conducted at a rest stop off of I-95 revealed several pipe bombs.

A St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office spokesman declined to confirm the report Wednesday morning, citing an ongoing investigation.

A subsequent update from the department stated that the unidentified man had commercial grade fireworks, not pipe bombs.

No crimes were committed and no arrest was made

Units responded to the rest area around 6 p.m. Tuesday night.

“The I-95 Southbound rest area at mile marker 303 is currently closed due to law enforcement activity,” the agency wrote on Facebook. “The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is on scene conducting an investigation. There is no threat to the community.”
