The St. Augustine community gathered Monday to honor local veterans in a heartfelt Veterans Day Celebration hosted by the Veterans Council of St. Johns County and the Military Officers Association of America, Ancient City Chapter.
Held at Anastasia Baptist Church, the event drew solemn crowds eager to pay tribute to those who served their country — in some case laying down their lives.
Attendees viewed the Traveling Vietnam and War on Terror Walls, along with over 40 display tables set up by local nonprofits and military groups.
Each table showcased unique military artifacts and stories, immersing visitors in a tribute to the region’s martial history.
St. Johns County Sheriff Robert A. Hardwick, a veteran of Operation Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, addressed the importance of service and the enduring impact of veterans in a keynote address.
Nationally acclaimed performer Vann Morris presented a rendition of “Old Glory,” and The St. Augustine High School Chorale performed a medley of patriotic songs.
Local youth groups, including the Junior ROTC and Sea Cadets, also participated in the day’s events.
The Veterans Council of St. Johns County expressed gratitude for the community’s support, encouraging residents to honor the sanctity of service and the sacrifices of those who put on the uniform.
