For most of us, a midnight moon is symbolic, conjuring up images that can be mystical, mysterious, and soothing.

It’s no different for book lovers. For us, the midnight moon ushers in a quiet time; a time to make our favorite tea, put on our comfy reading clothes, and settle into our coziest corner with our current favorite.

Book, that is.

Now, two local bibliophiles, Alison Bender and Melissa Hunt, are bringing all the magic of the midnight moon to a time much more suitable hour for most St. Augustine book lovers.

The shop will be located at 111 King Street near Flagler College. (Old City PR)

Bender and Hunt have worked together for over 8 years at Gypsy Moon, located on St. George St. in downtown St. Augustine.

They quickly discovered that they shared a love for the retail business, and a passion for books. The two set to work transforming a small soap shop at the Gypsy Moon location into an enchanting little reading corner.

“The response to our Book Nook has been overwhelming” explained Hunt. “Once we recognized the need for a reading center in the community, we decided to go for a bigger space.”

Located at 111 King St., Midnight Moon Books and Boutique is slated for a Saturday, July 12th debut with grand opening hours from 11 am – 7 pm.

The name Midnight Moon is a nod to every reader’s beloved midnight hour, and to Gypsy Moon, the current location of the Book Nook.  Bender and Hunt are doing all the Midnight Moon remodeling themselves, including paint, wallpaper, and unique decorator touches.

”We wanted to create a relaxing space where the community could gather together and feel welcome” explained Bender. Inviting touches include grab-and-go drinks (yes, wine will be available), fresh baked goods, a reading room, a clothing section featuring comfy reading ready-to-wear, a unique selection of reading-related gift and novelty items, and a meeting room for book clubs.

Author presentations and book-signings are also on the agenda , and there is parking! Plenty of parking. Free parking!

Regular hours for the store will be Tuesday – Sunday from 11 am – 7 pm. So stop by, grab a bite and a book, and settle in. Your midnight moon reading hour is here!
