A Jacksonville truck driver was arrested this week after allegedly reaching into another man’s vehicle and strangling him during a road rage incident in St. Augustine, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say the trucker became enraged after a traffic dispute on Anastasia Boulevard around 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

The 65-year-old victim told investigators he was pulling into his residence when the suspect stopped his semi-truck in the travel lane, got out, and approached the vehicle.

He felt that he had been cut off, according to an arrest report.

The victim said the attacker reached through the open driver’s window and grabbed both sides of his neck and throttled him, police papers state.

Surveillance video confirmed the sequence, showing the man exiting his truck, placing both hands inside the driver’s window, and then walking back to his vehicle before leaving the scene.

The victim contacted police, who spotted his assailant nearby while he was making a delivery.

He was positively identified by the victim and matched both the description and vehicle captured on video.

Police said the trucker admitted to making an obscene gesture at the victim during the initial portion of the exchange before proceeding with the attack .

He was charged with two felonies: battery by strangulation and burglary with assault or battery.
