A Jacksonville Beach man who was preparing to leave for boot camp was punched in the head in a random attack, his anguished family said in a GoFundMe plea for support.

According to the post, Carson Tucker was walking with friends near a pier to take some pictures before leaving the following day when two men approached them from behind.

One of them “punched my nephew blindly in the back of his head, causing him to slam down head first on the concrete knocking his tooth out!” Tucker’s relative wrote.

The assailants also shoved another member of their group to the ground, according to the post.

Calling the assault “absolutely disgusting and horrific,” Tucker’s aunt said he “now has permanent damage to his face, affecting his career.”

“He has a long road ahead of surgery and new teeth,” she wrote. “He has saved up $1,000 of his own money, but his insurance doesn’t start until he goes to boot camp.”

The post asked members of the community to pass any information on the case to local law enforcement.

“While we try our best to find these horrible people so justice can be served, we ask for your help,” she wrote.

The campaign has raised more than $6,000 as of Saturday morning.

“Carson is one of the sweetest kids I know and is just trying to have a better future,” she wrote. “He is extremely broken and doesn’t understand why this happened to him. We want to surround him with support.”

The incident comes nearly two months after another Jacksonville Beach man suffered serious head injuries after being thrown into a barricade outside Mango’s Beach Bar.

Connolly Byrnes, 21, is rehabilitating from his injuries. His assailant, Seth Agwunobi, is facing a felony battery charge in connection with the alleged assault.
