After years of service, he needs an assist.

A respected St. Augustine high school basketball coach is facing a difficult recovery after a devastating house fire earlier this month.

Pat Stevens, known locally as a coach and valued mentor for the St. Augustine Yellow Jacket boys basketball team, lost his home in the blaze.

The fire occurred on March 14, and resulted in a total loss of the family’s residence and belongings, according to a GoFundMe campaign.

In the aftermath, Stevens has been left without housing, clothing or basic necessities.

Community members are urging locals to help Stevens in his time of need, citing his longstanding role supporting Old City students and families.

“The road ahead will be challenging, but with the support of friends, neighbors, and the wider community, we can help them begin to rebuild their lives,” the fundraiser states.

A poster on St. Augustine’s PTO Facebook page echoed the call to action.

“To know him is to know a very passionate man who loves these kids,” the post wrote. “Please donate and pray for him and his family if you have the ability.”
