One of St. Johns County’s most prominent restaurants is putting another iron in the fire.
Ember & Iron, known for its rustic American fare and live-fire cooking, will open a second location in 2028 at The Village at Seven Pines in Jacksonville.
Chefs and owners Michael and Brittany Cooney, who also run Gemma Fish + Oyster, live in St. Johns County with their six children in Rivertown.

“Our success at Ember & Iron is rooted in the embrace of our community. St. Johns has allowed us to serve them from the heart – and hearth – and become part of their lives and celebrations over the last five years,” said Brittany Cooney.
The new 4,900-square-foot location will feature indoor and outdoor seating, a private dining area, a raw bar inspired by Gemma Fish + Oyster, and menu favorites from the St. Johns flagship, including chimichurri steak, and ember-grilled shrimp.

The bar will serve up a variety of bourbons, whiskeys, and signature cocktails including the St. Johns County Housewife.
The expansion coincides with the development of The Village at Seven Pines, which recently announced its first tranche of retailers — including 1928 Cuban Bistro and Williams-Sonoma.
Brittany Cooney, who grew up in St. Johns County, is the sister of Steffi Sorensen, former Florida Gators basketball star and local hoops legend from Bartram Trail High School.
Sorensen is embarking on her own entrepreneurial venture with Dark Horse Fitness in St. Johns County.
