St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office investigators are searching for additional human remains in Flagler Estates this week after skeletal remnants were discovered in the area in February.
The probe originally began on Feb. 8, 2024 after a local resident discovered the remains on a private property while walking off of Cedar Ford Boulevard.
Officials said they believe the find stemmed from an isolated incident and that there is not current threat to the local community.
SJSO said a team from Florida Gulf Coast University are taking part in the search, including a forensic pathologist, human identity and trauma analysis lab specialists, and several graduate students.
“At this time there is no evidence to support any danger to the community,” SJSO said. “Detectives believe the circumstances are related to an isolated incident but cannot release further details to protect the integrity of the investigation.”
Officials said local residents should expect a heavy law enforcement presence in the area in the coming days.
