The Swarm was all smiles.
A pair of beaming St. Augustine High School football standouts announced their college destinations in front of proud friends and family on Wednesday.
Quarterback Locklan Hewlett, who has thrown for more than 5,000 yards and 47 touchdowns while leading St. Augustine High School to back-to-back Florida Class 3 state Final Fours, will play at the University of South Florida.
Seated alongside Hewlett at a signing ceremony, wideout Trenton Jones formalized his enrollment at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Jones racked up more than 2,500 yards receiving along with 20 trips to the end zone.
Both Hewlett and Jones will graduate early from St. Augustine and enroll in their respective schools in January.
Hewlett’s father, William Hewlett, a renowned quarterback guru who once tutored San Francisco 49er Brock Purdy, was on hand for the occasion.
The school also announced that wide receiver Carl Jenkins Jr. signed with the University of Central Florida. Standing 6 ft 3 in, Jenkins compiled more than 2,200 yards receiving as a Jacket and scored 30 touchdowns.
St. Augustine will travel to Plantation, Florida for a hotly anticipated Final Four clash with Plantation American Heritage on Friday.
