Get ready to glide, St. Johns County.
St. Augustine’s Ponce De Le Rollin’ — a glittering, 7,500-square-foot roller skating rink — is officially opening its doors to the public this upcoming Saturday.
“We’re a laid back spot for locals, visitors, and anyone looking to slow down, lace up, and enjoy a little old school fun,” the new spot states on its website.
The project won quick approval last year after enthusiastic backers cited a relative lack of local recreational options — especially for kids.
Project representative James Whitehouse of the St. Johns Law Group said the project is envisioned as an joyful neighborhood hub.
“The vision is a family-friendly youth rink where residents and visitors can come together and enjoy the kind of skating experience many of us grew up with,” Whitehouse said in a presentation to local officials.
Ponce De Le Rollin’ is set to debut at 201 Anastasia Blvd. in a space formerly occupied by Bizarre Bazaar along the vibrant commercial span.
In the build up to their grand opening, the owners have pledged to keep the floor bumping with a wide range of nostalgic hits.
“Our state of the art DJ booth hosts only the best in the business,” their site reads. “No matter what your CD binder looked like, we’ve got you covered.”
While rollers can bring their own pair, skate rentals for everyone from toddlers to tall adults will also be available.
Ponce De Le Rollin’s will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays, and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends.
The venue will be closed on Mondays.
