Flagler deputies capture teen who stole Ferrari in Rhode Island home invasion and fled to Northeast Florida

Local deputies arrested one of two teens who stole a 2018 Ferrari during a Rhode Island home invasion and fled to Florida, officials said Tuesday.

The St. Johns and Flagler County Sheriff’s Offices initially said they were pursuing two teens who were suspecting of a Cranston, Rhode Island home invasion early Saturday and speeding into Connecticut before ending up in Florida.

Deputies eventually located the vehicle in front of a Palm Coast residence and took one of the suspect, Johnathan Costa, 19, into custody without incident.

They later determined that a second suspect, Logan Slezak, was not in the car and had likely never entered Flagler County.

“Costa has been arrested,” the Flagler department said in a Tuesday Facebook post. “Slezak was determined not to have been in the vehicle and is not believed to be in Flagler County.”

Police shut down several roads and freeways during the pursuit and deployed several helicopters in attempting to track down teh vehicle.

Witnesses said they saw police cruisers speeding behind the vehicle at several junctures before it came to a rest in the residential neighborhood.

Several schools in proximity to the chase were also locked down at various points during the afternoon.

According to news reports, Costa and Slezak burst into a Cranston, Rhode Island home at 3 a.m. Saturday morning and stole the Ferrari.

They were spotted in Connecticut Monday evening, but authorities there lost track of them.

Slezak’s wherebouts remain unknown as of Tuesday evening.
